Common questions
Does Oku sync between devices?
Only if you turn on iCloud sync in Settings. Sync uses your own iCloud, and takes effect the next time you open Oku.
Is my journal private?
Yes. Oku has no accounts, no servers, and no analytics. Entries stay on your device unless you turn on iCloud sync, and then they go to your own iCloud, where we can't read them.
Can I search my entries?
Not yet. For now, scroll back through your days, or find them on the map.
Can I export my journal?
Not yet. For now, iCloud sync is the way to keep a copy safe.
What does the AI polish do?
Oku can suggest a title for an entry, or gently rewrite the body. All of this happens on your device using Apple's Foundation Models. Nothing is sent to a network.
Why does Oku ask for location, contact, and microphone access?
Each is used for its own feature — remembering a place, adding people, turning a spoken note into text. Photos need no permission: you pick them with Apple's photo picker. You can decline any of them and keep writing.
What happens if I turn iCloud sync on and then off?
Sync takes effect at next launch either way. When you turn it off, entries stay on the device and stop being written to your iCloud database.
Reporting a problem
It helps to include:
- what you did, and what happened instead
- your iPhone model and iOS version (Settings › General › About)
- the Oku version, shown at the bottom of Oku’s Settings
- the app language, and whether iCloud sync is on
- a screenshot or screen recording, if you can
