Privacy Policy

Oku is a journal that keeps your writing on your iPhone. Oku has no accounts, no servers, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. We do not collect any data about you.
What Oku stores
Your entries are stored on your iPhone: the words you write, and the mood, reasons, place, people and photos you add. Unsaved drafts and the name you give for the greeting stay on your iPhone too.
iCloud sync
iCloud sync is off until you turn it on. When it is on, your entries are stored in your own private iCloud database under your Apple Account, so they appear on your other devices. We cannot see them. Apple stores this data under its iCloud terms.
Permissions
Oku asks for each permission only for the feature that needs it, and you can say no and keep writing.
Photos: only the photos you pick are added to an entry.
Contacts: Oku shows your contacts so you can pick who was there. It saves only the names you pick. Your contact list is never uploaded.
Location: used while you use the app, to name the place of an entry. Looking up a place name or searching for a place sends that location or search to Apple Maps. The place you choose is saved with the entry. Oku also looks up the town or district of places you have saved, to group them on the map; this sends their coordinates to Apple Maps.
Microphone and speech recognition: a voice note is turned into text on your iPhone. The recording is deleted once the text is ready. Voice notes are available in English.
Face ID: if you turn on the lock, your iPhone checks your face (or passcode) and tells Oku only whether it matched. Oku never sees your face data.
On-device AI
Title suggestions, body polish and photo captions are made by Apple’s on-device models. Your writing and photos are not sent anywhere to make them.
Notifications
If you turn on the daily reminder, it is scheduled on your iPhone. It shows a short line from Oku, never your entries.
Deleting your data
A deleted entry stays in Recently Deleted for 30 days, then it is removed for good. You can remove it sooner with Delete forever. Deleting Oku removes everything stored on your iPhone. If you used iCloud sync, you can delete Oku’s iCloud data in iOS Settings, under your iCloud storage.
Crash reports
Oku has no crash reporting of its own. If you allow iOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us crash reports. You can change this in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security.
Children
Oku collects no data from anyone, children included.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
